VOID/BREAKER Environmental Destruction Mechanics Explained

How destruction works in VOID/BREAKER, from blasting walls and collapsing structures to mods that turn debris into damage.

In VOID/BREAKER, environmental destruction is a core gameplay mechanic rather than a visual flourish. The game's official Steam store page describes it as an advantage: players "blast through walls, collapse structures, and stagger enemies to survive," and the store text stresses that destruction "isn't just for show." In practice, that means the level geometry is part of your toolkit during a run, alongside gunplay and movement. The official material does not publish damage values, structural durability figures, or a breakdown of exactly which props in each zone can be destroyed, so those specifics are not officially documented.

Walls and structures as tactical options

The store description frames destruction around three verbs: blasting through walls, collapsing structures, and staggering enemies. Read together, they suggest destruction can be used both to reshape a space and to disrupt what enemies are doing.

  • Blasting through walls implies opening routes or lines of fire that were not there before.
  • Collapsing structures implies bringing parts of the environment down rather than only shooting at enemies.
  • Staggering enemies implies that destruction has a direct effect on hostile behaviour, not just on the map.

The official text does not state how much of an arena can be demolished, whether every wall is destructible, or how long a stagger lasts.

The mods that hook into destruction

The official RECALIBRATION update announcement (Update 3) list, published on Steam, includes several Body Mods that interact directly with destruction or physics. These are taken from the official update post:

  • Sharp Debris: destruction debris has a chance to apply Laceration to enemies.
  • Zeus Strike: enemies hit by gravity tethered objects will be struck by lightning.
  • BUNNYHOP.XES: jumping out of a slide will drop a destructive mine.

That same announcement describes the update as the biggest single drop of new modules since launch, and states that 19 modules shipped where 18 had been promised on the roadmap, with additions in every category. The post presents these as options for build variety; it does not claim any of them is mandatory or describe exact proc rates for effects such as Sharp Debris.

Why the destruction holds up under load

The physics work behind the mechanic has been described by Havok, which is a third-party source rather than an official Stubby Games statement. According to Havok's developer blog, Stubby Games integrated Havok Physics for Unreal, and developer Daniel Stubbington told Havok that the scope of destruction in VOID/BREAKER was set to be huge, which required improved performance. In the same interview he said the first playtest with Havok enabled shortened frame times and raised physics precision, and that the Havok Niagara plugin, which allows for convex collision particles, let him expand the scope of environmental destruction further. Treat those as the developer's remarks as published by Havok, not as material from the Steam page.

What is not officially documented

A few natural questions have no official answer in the material available. The store page and announcements do not give numbers for debris damage, do not explain how stagger interacts with specific enemy types, and do not list which zones have the most destructible geometry. Anyone who wants to test those details can use the free demo, which Playstack's announcements say is available on the store page and whose progress carries over to the full game.

For the official wording on destruction, the store page remains the primary reference; for the mods that build on it, the RECALIBRATION update notes are the source.
